Published during the Meiji era, Bijutsukai and Shin Bijutsukai are treasured collections featuring exquisite craft designs by various pattern designers, Japanese-style painters, and talented artisans whose names may have been lost to time. These beautifully crafted books showcase the art of multicolor woodblock printing and were published by Unsodo, a distinguished Kyoto-based art publisher and the only house in Japan dedicated to producing hand-printed woodblock books.

We selected designs from Bijutsukai and Shin Bijutsukai and made it into a Weeks book.




The dove motif has been traditionally cherished in Japan as a universal symbol of peace. The abstract patterns that resemble flower petals and fruits, combined with traditional motifs such as red lattice and targets, create a surprisingly contemporary atmosphere.




The year 2026 is foil-pressed in subdued gold.




The back cover features a design from Shin Bijutsukai. It appears to be a traditional pattern where scattered flower petals floating on the water’s surface resemble rafts. Yet, it also evokes a fantastical image of paper wishes dancing across the night sky of Tanabata, where the Milky Way stretches above.




The Unsodo lineup also includes a mini envelope set and a mini letter set, each designed using motifs from these beautiful illustrations.

Though these designs were created over a century ago, they remain remarkably fresh and captivating to this day.

The cover has been constructed as a light hardcover book with some give to it so it still bends.

The book uses thin and light yet durable Tomoe River paper. It's characterized by its ability to hold ink well and provide a smooth writing experience.




The Weeks book has space for writing in plans or journal entries, and it also has 71 pages of grid paper memo pages in the back (75 pages in the English edition). The back of the book contains bonus pages, including Memories 2026 and 12 Switches to Help You Focus.
