Unsodo Bijutsukai - Mini Envelopes
Published during the Meiji era, Bijutsukai and Shin Bijutsukai are treasured collections featuring exquisite craft designs by various pattern designers, Japanese-style painters, and talented artisans whose names may have been lost to time. These beautifully crafted books showcase the art of multicolor woodblock printing and were published by Unsodo, a distinguished Kyoto-based art publisher and the only house in Japan dedicated to producing hand-printed woodblock books.
We’ve selected designs from Bijutsukai and Shin Bijutsukai and made mini envelopes.
The yellow-topped envelope features a chrysanthemum pattern on a lattice background. The pink one showcases snow-covered branches with wagtails and Baigyoku stripes. The green envelope displays striking red vertical stripes with narcissus flowers. The blue one depicts fishing nets and plover motifs representing the sea and fishing. Using traditional patterns, the distinctive color palette remains refreshingly modern. The set includes eight envelopes with two of each design.
They are perfect for small tokens of appreciation, tips, or to enclose handwritten notes and messages. You can also attach them directly to your techo to make it a pocket for small items, memos, or precious keepsakes. These envelopes are remarkably versatile and practical in many creative ways. With each design a delightful work of art in itself, simply looking at them brings joy.
