Modern Calligraphy + Custom Calligraphy Ink Workshop by Alma Flourish
A calligraphy experience where students will create their own custom gouache calligraphy ink and explore seasonal lettering inspired by Halloween and Día de los Muertos colors and creative elements. Attendees will receive a calligraphy kit (distinct from the first workshop), specialty papers, and themed templates to continue creating after the workshop.
What’s included in the class kit?
- Calligraphy pen holder (oblique dip pen)
- Specialty/custom-made reservoir nib, hand-soldered with a small reservoir that holds more ink than a traditional nib
- Gouache and materials for creating custom calligraphy inks
- Small ink jars for attendees to take their custom colors home (2–3 colors, depending on time)
- Calligraphy workbook and seasonal templates
- Specialty papers
- Halloween/Día de los Muertos-inspired creative elements
- A few additional goodies/surprises (raffle gifts, candy, wine)

About Alma Flourish:
My love for calligraphy began over 40 years ago with a rusty fountain pen I found in my dad’s weathered desk. Years of journaling, scrapbooking, creative planning, and collecting pens naturally led me to this beautiful art form.
When my daughter needed academic support, we took a calligraphy workshop together and discovered how the simple act of writing with intention can improve focus, encourage creativity, and strengthen connection. Calligraphy transforms words, each stroke becoming a moment of mindfulness while adding beauty to the way we communicate and preserve memories.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to teach nearly 1,000 students through Sip & Script classes, workshops, and private events. I’ve helped participants discover that calligraphy can be approachable, relaxing, and fun. I love creating welcoming spaces where attendees feel encouraged to slow down, connect, and enjoy the creative process.. plus have fun!
I had the joy of teaching at Little Craft Fest earlier this year, and the experience truly inspired me. Connecting with the journaling and crafty community made me feel more confident as both an instructor and creative. It complemented the incredible work the vendors and fellow workshop instructors were doing, and encouraged me to become even more involved in this community that feels so much like family to me. The warmth and excitement from attendees reminded me how meaningful it is to create spaces where people can gather, learn, and make something beautiful together.
My workshops blend seasonal creativity, journaling inspiration, and modern calligraphy with hands-on experiences that encourage attendees to slow down, create, and have fun. For this special spooky-themed class, students will explore festive lettering inspired by Halloween and Día de los Muertos themes, create their own custom calligraphy ink, practice on beautiful specialty papers, and design whimsical brush calligraphy pumpkins as part of the seasonal creative activity.
Based in Houston, TX, I’m a wife, mom of three, and energy professional who loves tea, cappuccinos, traveling, rainy days, and getting lost in a good creative project.
- Workshops are non-refundable, non-transferable or redeemable for cash, and all sales are final. We have committed to compensating our instructors for their time, supplies and talent.
- You don't need a Marketplace admission ticket to attend workshop, we're all about flexibility here.
- For workshop check-in, all you need is your name and order number.
- If you can't make it on the actual day, you may get the kit to finish the project at home. Reach out to the instructor to arrange kit pickup or shipping.
- In the event a workshop is cancelled, attendees will be fully refunded within 10 days of the event. Little Craft Fest/Little Craft Place reserve the right to cancel any class due to lack of participation.
- Workshops are not included in the daily pass or 3-day pass.
- Ticket holders grant Little Craft Fest/Little Craft Place permission to use their recorded likeness at the event, with the understanding that these images and videos may be used for future promotional activities.
- Little Craft Fest/Little Craft Place reserves the right to refuse entry or remove any participant from the venue at their discretion.
